‘Lin Thei’, that is: Frank Thein, League Secretary of the DSAB Rasing League, Düsseldorf and Achim Lintzen, League secretary, DSAB Grenzland, Aachen. Since 1999 we have organised, once a year, a Dart Tournament on the Costa Brava, Spain. We first met each other in 1990. Frank wanted to do something with Darts in Düsseldorf. Achim had already organised the Grenzland League, which had almost 80 teams, almost 2 years before.

After several meetings Frank founded the Düsseldorf Resin League and was active for many years in The American Darts Club. He was often on T.V. in Euro Sport.

Achim had known Kalle Delhaye, who played for Alemannia Aachen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC. Bayern Munich. He had organised football tournaments in Spain, alongside Harry Ebert from Aachen, for 20 years. Then the idea was born to organise a dart tournament in Spain. Sounds simple, but to put the plan into action was more difficult. How do you get your own hotel?, darts machines?, enough players?, who would want to take part? Frank didn’t need  to think it over for long. He thought it was a great idea, so he immediately joined in (there were enough problems though as you can read later in the report).

Hotel found, machines arranged, an announcement made and they were away. Couldn’t be difficult, could it? After all Frank also maintained almost 80 teams and Aachen League had increased to over 300 teams. So, almost 400 teams, about 2,500 players. Certainly it should be possible to get 150 players together, we thought!! Many liked the idea , but said not to booking themselves. Rather let the others go. So they set off to the German Championships to advertise. After that, the ball started rolling. Magdeburg, Pforzheim, Hamburg, Cologne, Ingolstadt etc, the bookings came pouring in from everywhere and the first CBC was a record. From the Düsseldorf and Aachen Leagues, 60 people set off in direction Loret de Mar. In the following years the numbers increased to 200. About 100 of these, are meanwhile regular CBC participants, who have been at least 5 or 6 times there.

In 2000-2002 the tournament took place in Callella, What makes the whole thing so pleasant is that the participants are always in a great mood. They want to have fun, meet old friends, sit in the sun, drink a cool drink and simultaneously pursue their hobby. Dart till the doctor comes.

In 2003 was back to Loret and if possible for 10 days to make it worth it. Officially there are  5-6 days of tournaments. 4-5 days free. Although even on these days someone will usually organise a tournament.

New friendships are mad, addresses exchanges. We know today already that when the bookings for the next CBC come in, the same familiar questions will be asked: ‘Is Fenne coming too?’ – ‘Will Franco be there this time?’ and so on.

That’s the unique thing about our event. Everyone looks forward to it for 12 months and when the weather is also nice, no-one wants to leave. When the participants depart, by car or by plane, they often have tears in their eyes. That goes for us too. That’s how it is when the great CBC family separates.

If you would also like to experience this feeling, then you are invited to join us next time. Here you will find more information for the next year. If you send us an email with your address, we will send you info material by post. We look forward in any case to welcoming you in Spain.

You can win our trip too! In Düsseldorf, in Bistro Melone with Günni in hof and also with Roman in Sweden. Whoever is interested in playing for our trip, should contact us.
